Changes to the project banner
[edit]Hi! I have made some changes to the project banner in its sandbox version:
- I have changed the image to this, which is similar to logo I added here.
- I have also added a few new notes;
- Cricket articles with no associated task force - Now that there are new task forces, this category would be helpful to keep track of articles.
- Former FA-Class cricket articles - already exists; but added a visible note to it.
- Former FL-Class cricket articles - already exists; but added a visible note to it.
- Former GA-Class cricket articles - would be useful to keep track of former GA pages as well.
- Current cricket articles - would be useful to keep track of current competitions.
- Cricket Collaboration - planning to begin it from February 2025.
Others, please let me know what your thoughts about this are... Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 11:44, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Also, why is the to do list on a talk page, instead of a project page...? Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 11:53, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- @AssociateAffiliate, Bearian, Jhall1, Joseph2302, Jpeeling, ReturnDuane, and Spike 'em: or anyone else: what are your thoughts about this... Vestrian24Bio 02:55, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- I have no opinion. Bearian (talk) 02:56, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

Is using the CricketArchive Oracle original research?
[edit]Sorry for bothering you all again. Anyway, in an article I'm writing for South African cricketer Mike Doherty, and to a lesser extent my C. G. Joshi article, I've come across facts that would be valuable to include on their pages but can only source through CricketArchive's Player Oracle. In Doherty's case, he appeared in only four first-class wins in 85 matches; for Joshi, he lost all ten of his final matches that he appeared in during his career. For Doherty, I can only show this by using the Oracle to tell me which matches were victories of his team and then compare it to the complete total of matches on his CA player page. (Joshi might not need a comparison link, but I still need proof that he played in and lost seven Ranji and three Duleep finals.) Although I have seen the Oracle used for some pages on prominent cricketers (the featured article on Adam Gilchrist uses the Oracle 90 times, as an extreme example), I don't know whether it's a reasonable use of the CA website or if it's original research. I can't find a page that answers this question, so I'll ask the question here: Is the Oracle acceptable to use as a source? -- JustJamie820 (talk) 03:23, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- The Gilchrist article went to FA quite a long time ago didn't it? I'm not sure so much stats dredging would necessarily be accepted today - there are reports for almost all the things it uses I imagine. For me, what you've described above is OR. I'm not sure the Doherty fact is particularly worth including to be honest - certainly not if someone else hasn't written about it. Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:47, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Gilchrist is one of the first cricket FAs, I think. Back to the Oracle, I got that impression that I couldn't use it, even to verify years as captain, but I was getting mixed signals thanks to Gilchrist; that was the main reason I brought this point up here. I thank you, and Wjemather, for your comments on it. I didn't use the Oracle on either article I mentioned, and I'll plan to avoid it for future articles as well. Incidentally, the Doherty fact was to illustrate the lack of success his team had during his 21 years there, but that's irrelevant since no one wrote about it; likewise with the 0-10 record Joshi had in finals. -- JustJamie820 (talk) 20:39, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Such facts are probably best described as WP:TRIVIA and statistical cruft. If such things have not been written about elsewhere, we shouldn't be writing about them here. wjematherplease leave a message... 11:58, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
Needing help with old sources for Pakistani cricketers...
[edit]I have another question here, imagine that. Seriously, though, my search in cricketers without Wikpiedia articles has come across Raja Sarfraz, and with him, I can't just base everything on statistics due to an unusual peak and a mysterious departure from cricket for a year a few years after. My question is this: Where can I find 1980s Pakistani sources digitized online? If it's in Urdu or some other Pakistani language, that is fine, so long as it works with Google Translate. I'd search myself, but I don't know how to search for the cricketer's name in Urdu, as Google Translate doesn't seem to work with proper names. I was going to go to the Asian cricket taskforce for help on this or to randomly message the members with Pakistani flags next to their usernames, but I figured it'd be easier to ask here...assuming you haven't had enough of my questioning yet. -- JustJamie820 (talk) 00:23, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
Help with a rejected Article for Creation...
[edit]It's me again, without a research question. If you pay attention to the front page, you'll notice my Article for Creation request on John West. Today (25 February), it got rejected for what's said to be the same reasons that the previous version got deleted, even though it doesn't have much of a resemblance to the version deleted in 2022. I bring it up here because I'm wondering what anyone interested in reading it thinks about it, and whether I should take it through another process to get it back on Wikipedia. I've poured over a lot of old newspapers to find mentions of him (one I found actually isn't the article because I don't know where to mention how he had a reputation for hitting the ball hard), so I hope I've done him some justice. -- JustJamie820 (talk) 05:42, 26 February 2025 (UTC) (P.S. Sorry if this brings up any uncomfortable memories...)
- Second time was a charm; it passed this time. As you were... -- JustJamie820 (talk) 06:46, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
This article was hit by multiple vandals today. I've protected the article for now just to stop the abuse, but I don't know enough about cricket to identify a "good" version to revert to. I'd appreciate any help from people with more cricket knowledge than I have. Joyous! Noise! 17:37, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
