For the country's infobox, below Cộng hòa Xã hội chủ nghĩa Việt Nam (Vietnamese), add 越南社會主義共和國 (Chữ Hán) as done with South Korea DVB The Great (talk) 20:56, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, if we want to be more accurate, it would be 共和社會主義越南 as being written in that order would perfectly correspond with Cộng hòa Xã hội chủ nghĩa Việt Nam. DVB The Great (talk) 21:05, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
Not done. Chữ Hán is no longer used in modern contexts. Adding that transcription to the infobox would be unnecessary cruft, especially since Chữ Hán does not exist in an official government capacity. Yue🌙 22:28, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Wouldn't that be the same with South Korea? They also don't use Hanja anymore if I remember correctly. DVB The Great (talk) 00:13, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Second option of the Image Switcher
[edit]Hello, I've noticed that, in the image switcher, the second option is named "Show map of ASEAN", which in Wikipedia, is not really good (see MOS:MAPOF), since I am not an extended comfirmed user, that's mean that i can't directly edit this article. Thanks. QwertyZ34 (talk) 17:20, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
Sweden supporting North Vietnam in 1955 incorrect
[edit]The article says North Vietnam was supported by Sweden in 1955 when Ngô Đình Diệm claimed himself as president of South Vietnam. The source does not claim this, but rather says Sweden first started supporting Viet Cong in 1971, but might have been sympathizing with it in late 1960's. I do not have editing permission for this article, could someone who has correct it? Gurkmaztha (talk) 12:01, 31 January 2025 (UTC)

- I suppose we could put the two of them side by side as a "Spot the difference(s)" puzzle. If there ARE any differences (I sure didn't spot any). Uporządnicki (talk) 10:21, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, I do see something. The proposed replacement has all these little curves and angles on the Pacific and Indian Oceans. I suppose they're meant to delineate ocean territories of islands that are too small to appear on the map. Uporządnicki (talk) 10:25, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

In the Formation section in the infobox, I suggest adding the Élysée Accords (8 March 1949) with the name "End of the French protectorate", as the 9th event below the "Declaration of Independence" event. The Élysée Accords was an important event in Vietnamese history, after this treaty, the French protectorate (colonial regime) in Vietnam was officially abolished.[1] Of course, Vietnam was de facto not completely independent from France at that time as Vietnam was only associated state, but at least France recognized the abolition of the protectorate in Vietnam. Anyway, the Élysée Accords was important in Vietnamese history. In fact Vietnam gained full independence from France on 4 June 1954 but not in the Geneva Conference on 21 July 1954.[2][3] Again, I think we need to add the Élysée Accords. 58.186.77.50 (talk) 02:16, 14 February 2025 (UTC)

I want to update Vietnam population from 96,208,984 in 2019 census to 101,112,656[4][5][6][7] in 2024 census. Also I want to change Vietnam's population ranking from 15 to 16.[8]2402:9D80:3A6:A255:B3F8:1A3C:1F6E:15C9 (talk) 11:27, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

Under the section "Economy", subsection "Agriculture" states in the first sentence that Vietnam's increased agricultural output is due to "land reforms", with no elaboration on the point of comparison or what these reforms entail. I believe the he only proximate source that mentions such a thing is the Nielsen 2007[9] source. This source, however, does not primarily attribute this increased output to land reforms. The attribution is instead given primarily to trade liberalisation.
Furthermore, due to the lack of clarification and the nature of Vietnam's history, readers may come under the reasonable impression that "land reform" here refers to something like collectivisation, which is the exact opposite of what the reforms in question actually entail.
As such, the term "several land reform measures" here should be replaced with something akin to "broad market liberalisation efforts undertaken by the government starting from 1986 as part of the Đổi Mới program, including trade liberalisation and no longer requiring farmers to participate in cooperatives". Maybe less if this is too wordy, maybe some of it moved into other sentences. Dieknon (talk) 21:11, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
